About Sensible Electronics and Technology
The Intersection of Medicine, Patience, and Purpose.
Most technology companies are built to move fast and break things. We were built to slow down and fix the disconnect between people and the digital world.
A Message from Our Founder
"Digital literacy is no longer a luxury—it is a modifiable determinant of health."
As a geriatric medicine physician, I spent years seeing how the "digital divide" directly impacted the health of my patients. I saw how losing the ability to navigate an app, a patient portal, or a video call led to measurable social isolation, missed healthcare opportunities, and a loss of personal agency.
I realized that the standard solution—having a family member or a "tech guy" quickly fix a problem—wasn't enough. In fact, it often increased dependency.
I founded Sensible Electronics and Technology to provide a different kind of care. Combining my medical background with my early experience as a RadioShack associate, I developed a method of coaching that respects the learner’s intelligence, adapts to their pace, and prioritizes their independence above all else.

The Need: Why Digital Autonomy Matters
The Problem: Digital Exclusion is a Health Risk
In today’s world, being "offline" isn't just an inconvenience—it is a barrier to essential care. When an older adult cannot navigate a patient portal, join a video call with family, or recognize a digital scam, the result is more than just frustration. It leads to:
Social Isolation: Research links digital exclusion to increased rates of depression and loneliness.
Healthcare Gaps: As telehealth becomes the standard of care, digital literacy becomes a prerequisite for health.
Loss of Agency: Relying on others to "fix" tech problems creates a cycle of dependency that erodes confidence.
The Solution: Moving from "Fixed" to "Fluent" Most solutions for older adults are transactional. A family member or a technician steps in, clicks a few buttons, and leaves. The device is "fixed," but the person is left just as unsure as they were before.
Sensible provides a clinical-grade intervention. We don't just solve the technical hurdle; we address the underlying need for autonomy. By focusing on ethics and patient-centered coaching, we ensure that technology remains a tool for connection and independence, rather than a source of stress.
Why Our Approach Is Different
1. Clinical Understanding
We understand how the brain learns and adapts with age. Our methods are specifically designed to accommodate the cognitive and sensory needs—such as vision or hearing changes—of older adults. We don’t just teach technology; we teach in a way that aligns with how you process information.
2. The Ethics of Independence
Traditional tech support creates a "call me when it breaks" cycle. Our ethical commitment is to do the opposite. We use a 3-Step Method (Explain, Guide, Repeat) that ensures the client remains in the driver’s seat. Our success is measured by how much you don't need us.
3. Safety as a Foundation
In the medical world, "First, do no harm" is the golden rule. In the digital world, that means protection. We believe safety shouldn't be an "extra" service. We incorporate scam awareness, phishing defense, and privacy best practices into every single lesson we teach.
